The Hôtel de Glace: a Lead Product with Huge Spinoffs
for Greater Quebec City Tourism


Even as preparations are underway for its 15th anniversary, the team at Hôtel de Glace is proud to publish the highlights of an independent survey conducted by Watson on the number of visitors and level of tourism spinoffs generated by the Hôtel de Glace in the winter of 2014. In all, 600 local and outside visitors to the Hôtel de Glace (day trippers and tourists) were surveyed between January 3 and March 23, 2014.

The Watson survey reveals that in 2014, visitors to the Hôtel de Glace were 26.36% local, 12.75% day trippers and 60.90% tourists. Half of the tourists came from outside Québec, originating in equal portions from Canada, the United States and other countries.

The survey also confirms that 2/3 of the tourists who visited the Hôtel de Glace stayed in a commercial establishment for an average 3.4 nights. This represents a total of 52,000 tourists who generated 44,000 nights (rooms) for the greater Quebec City area. 

What's more, 84% of the outside visitors knew of the Hôtel de Glace before coming and more than half of them indicated that the Hôtel de Glace was in whole or in part their main reason for staying in the area. These tourists and day trippers travel, on average, in groups of 2.6 individuals and spend an average $909 per trip portion. The approximately 63,000 individual outside visitors to the Hôtel de Glace therefore generated $22 million in tourist spinoffs. The three biggest expenses are respectively: lodging, meals and beverages, and finally, transportation. 

Finally, this survey also confirms a high customer satisfaction rating for the Hôtel de Glace, from both local and outside visitors ─ 96.3% overall.  The survey clearly confirms the strong competitive advantage that the  Hôtel de Glace gives the greater Quebec City area on the international winter tourism scene.
